Farmers say that they have kept the soybean crop stocked in their homes for several months in the hope of getting a good price, but the market has dashed their hopes of earning good money. Now such farmers are repenting.
After onion, tomato, grapes, cotton and banana, now soyabean has also got its number. In some mandis of Maharashtra, the price of soybean has also come down from the MSP. Due to this the concern of the farmers has increased. Farmers say that they have kept the soybean crop stocked in their homes for several months in the hope of getting a good price, but the market has dashed their hopes of earning good money. Now such farmers are repenting. In the last two years, the price of soyabean has come down by Rs 5,000 to Rs 6,000 per quintal. In the year 2021, the price of soybean had reached 10 to 11 thousand rupees per quintal, but now it has come down to 4000 to 5000 rupees.
Madhya Pradesh is the largest producer of soybean in the country. The second number is from Maharashtra. In Maharashtra's Lasalgaon and Lasalgaon Vinchur Mandi, its minimum price remained up to Rs 3000 per quintal on 31 May. In Pimpalgaon mandi, the minimum price was only Rs.2002. While the MSP of soybean is Rs 4300 per quintal in the Kharif marketing season 2022-23.
Why is the price decreasing? Soybean-producing farmers of the state say that last year i.e. in 2022, at this time, the price of soybean was up to Rs 7000 per quintal, but now it has decreased continuously. Soybean comes in both oilseeds and pulses crops. At present, there is a decline in all other oilseed crops except groundnut. Because the import duty of edible oils has remained negligible. That's why businessmen are finding it cheaper to get crude soybean oil from other countries. Soybean farmers are facing loss due to this policy.
